Specialist Facilities
To support our research and student projects, we have extensive specialist computing facilities, including our SRIF funded High Performance Computing cluster and Access Grid Node.
High Performance Computing

Our Science Research Investment Fund (SRIF) High Performance Computing (HPC) cluster consists of 128 processors in HS21 high-density blade servers from IBM linked to terascale storage. The cluster is used to run high-intensity simulations for research through a Condor pool. This varies from analyses of turbo codes for steganalysis, simulations of sensory processing in the brain, through to large-scale processing of text corpora. The HPC also provides us with a foundation for our Grid-based research projects. On top of the HPC, we also have 22 other high performance Linux servers.
Other Support
We have specialist desktop solutions for our staff and postgraduate research students. This includes a range of development software and research packages and dedicated printing.
To support collaboration we also have an Access Grid Node (AGN) in our seminar room (39 BB 02). This provides us with a 6 metre screen for simultaneous videoconferencing, presentation sharing and software demonstration, with interactive whiteboard capabilities and an induction loop provided for the hard of hearing.
