Biography

My background is primarily in Engineering, with my first degree in electrical engineering from the University of Malta. I was introduced to the field of Coding Theory during my final year project; I followed this with a research Masters degree on Turbo coding, again from the University of Malta. I then moved to the United States for a few years, where I pursued a PhD in systems engineering at Oakland University, Rochester, MI. This involved a combination of Control Systems and Image Processing, together with my previous knowledge of Coding Theory, resulting in my doctoral thesis on Information Hiding in Images.

Following my PhD, I spent four years as a Lecturer with the University of Malta, and am currently working on the Error Control Watermarking project with Dr George Schaathun.

Research Interests

My general research interests involve Multimedia, Signal Processing, Security, and Coding (Error-Control, Compression, and Cryptography). I particularly like applications that cross the boundaries between the different fields, and have also dabbled in the application of Parallel Computing, particularly cluster and grid computing.
