Postgraduate Research: MPhil and PhD
The Department of English is an interdisciplinary department. In our research we use a range of methodologies including literary theory and criticism, close reading, text and discourse analysis, structural linguistic analysis, and historical archive research. We cover an interlocking network of themes around the study of literature and language, popular culture, film and communication.
Our doctoral students benefit from the growing doctoral programme which offers research training and supervision from internationally-recognised researchers.

Research Training Programme
The Department of English conducts research training under the supervision of Professor Peter I. Barta. The event is scheduled for the week normally during the first week of May. Each student will give a conference style paper, arranged into sections, with a chair and discussant in the mornings. In the afternoon, there will be panels given by experienced researchers, followed by discussion. Each day there will be a social event hosted by the Department.
