Evening Language Classes
Evening language classes are taught by language teachers from The School of English and Languages, a part of the University of Surrey which specialises in teaching languages to a broad spectrum of student and adult learners.
Our courses are open to all, with no formal entry requirements.
We offer a range of courses and levels, from beginners to advanced.
Open Evenings
These are opportunities for you to visit the school, share a glass of wine with the tutors and ask any questions you may have about the courses. The evenings are free of charge, but you do need to register with the School of English and Languages beforehand (T: 01483 682857).
Open Evenings for 2013-2014 are at 7pm to 8.30pm on the following dates:

All classes are held on weekday evenings from 7.00pm - 8.30pm.
Courses start in October, January, and April. There are no half-term breaks.

- Where are the courses held?
All classes are taught in high-quality teaching rooms on campus, many of them purpose built language labs. All learners are able to use the excellent self-study facilities in the new Library and Learning Centre. Opening hours can be checked at http://www.surrey.ac.uk.library.
- What Level am I?
The Languages & Translation Studies staff are highly experienced in advising learners about levels. You can speak to one of our tutors on the telephone, or at one of the open evenings.
- What facilities are available to me?

- How will I be taught?
Speaking and understanding the spoken language are very important skills for most people. Our classes concentrate on building your confidence in the language and you can expect to be taught in the language you are learning and have plenty of opportunity to participate in class.
The course materials are related to real life, enabling you to acquire knowledge of the country as well as its language. You will be given work to do each week.
- How often and how long for?
Some of our classes are intensive and meet twice a week for 8 weeks, while others run for 16 weeks, one evening a week. All Spoken Summer courses meet once a week over 8 weeks.

- How much does it cost?
Payment should be made on enrolment before the start of courses. We are sorry but refunds cannot normally be given if you withdraw from a course.
- Language courses (all levels): £245
- 8 week "spoken" courses (all levels): £130
Classes will run subject to their viability.
Please note: We advise early enrolment, as some courses do fill up before the start date.
In the unlikely event that a class has to be postponed we will contact you by phone.
