Wednesday 16 December 2009

A summer school promoting healthy lifestyles run in partnership between the University of Surrey and an institution in Slovenia was won a national award for the excellence.

The two-week intensive programme run by the University of Maribor won the country’s national Award for Excellency.

The Faculty of Health Sciences at the University in Slovenia ran the ‘Healthy living – HEALTH’ summer school in conjunction with colleagues from the University of Surrey and University College Dublin.

In Slovenia, the Minister for Education and Sports, Dr Igor Lukšič has praised the summer school for promoting an international and interdisciplinary approach towards excellence and development.

Funded by the Erasmus Lifelong Learning programme, students of all ages from Slovenia, Portugal, UK and Ireland took part in the event and have since remained in contact and exchanged ideas.

Dr Khim Horton, Senior Lecturer at the Division of Health and Social Care, in the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, at the University of Surrey, said: “It’s great news and I would like to congratulate my colleagues in Maribor for winning this prestigious award.

“I am delighted to have had the opportunity to collaborate on this project which was highly evaluated by our students.”
