e-SMART Launch - Transforming Cancer Care

Thursday 27 February 2014

09:00 to 15:00

Over 3 million people are diagnosed with cancer each year in Europe and incidence rates will see an increase of at least 65% over the next 20 years. The proliferation of scientific results and novel treatments is a growing challenge for health professionals as we deliver more personalised cancer care. Patients with cancer are more narrowly defined by their molecular characteristics, highlighting the need for real-time decision support to help them provide the most effective treatments. Given the increasing numbers of people with cancer more effective solutions to deliver personalised cancer care are essential. Technological innovations enable the delivery of care in the home and rural setting and this, coupled with the use of predictive risk models (PRMs) will enable a preventative and anticipatory model of care and identification of patients at greater risk of adverse events. This seminar will highlight the future potential for cancer care, highlight innovative methods to remotely monitor patients, advances in molecular profiling, predictive risk modelling and advanced technology systems to change care delivery and revolutionise the way we support people with cancer.
