Professor Roberts was previously head of the Department of Microbial and Cellular Sciences and a Professor of Virology. Professor Roberts was appointed to the position of Dean and member of the Executive Board from a very strong field of international candidates.

Professor Roberts joined the University in 1998 as a Lecturer in Virology.  Prior to joining the University of Surrey, she worked as a Product Development Manager for Proctor & Gamble and undertook her PhD at the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council in the Institute for Animal Health.  Professor Roberts has a 1st class BSc (Hons) in Medical Microbiology from the University of Birmingham.

Professor Roberts’ tenure as Dean commenced on the 1st May 2012. I am very grateful to Professor Ian Kitchen who has undertaken the role of Interim Dean prior to the new Dean taking up the post, following Professor John Hay’s departure.
