Faculty Research Support Fund

The FHMS Research Support Fund provides awards intended to enhance the effectiveness of research, particularly by implementing the research strategy of the Faculty. The categories under which applications may be made are:

Travel Grants - to enable staff to attend major overseas conferences at which they are making a contribution, to encourage inter-institutional bids for external funds and to stimulate international collaboration.
Pump-priming Funds - to support new ideas to the point where outside funding may be sought.

Deadlines for submission are: 1st January, 1st April, 1st July and 1st October.

Maximum requests are £1000 travel and £8000 pump-priming funds. All requests must have matched funding from outside or divisional sources.

Applications will normally only be considered from members of the academic staff (including lecturers on probation, tenured staff employed for 50% or more of a full-time appointment; and former academic staff who have accepted voluntary severance from full-time posts, up to their normal retirement age) of the Faculty. Pump-priming funds are available to all applicants, regardless of seniority. However, priority will be given to junior staff starting their research career where external fast-stream or starter funds are not available from organisations such as research councils.

Application forms and detailed application guidance notes can be downloaded from this site.

Completed applications should be sent by e mail to Alison Sawyer, FHMS Administration.
