Centre for Translation Studies
The Centre for Translation Studies (CTS) is a well-established specialist Centre dedicated to teaching, scholarship and research in Translation Studies. Since its inception in 1982, the Centre has established an international reputation in the field for both its research and its innovative taught programmes.
Our teaching and research activities reflect exciting changes which have been taking place over recent years in the scope of the academic discipline of Translation Studies. True to these developments, our activities now encompass audiovisual texts and ‘translation' between modes as well as languages.
The Surrey approach combines leading research expertise with professional relevance. We are proud of our active links with the leading professional bodies.
New MA in Business Interpreting in Chinese and English
This new MA will prepare graduates to work as interpreters in conference, business and political settings at the highest levels. The programme will be delivered in cooperation with KL Communications, a well established company which has provided interpreting between Chinese and English at the highest levels of business and government, for many years. Our MA in Translation joins the European Masters in Translation (EMT) Network.
Our established MA in Translation has been selected to join the European Masters in Translation (EMT) Network. The EMT Network is a project led by the Directorate General for Translation of the European Commission for which 93 applications were received from 24 Member States and 3 non-EU countries. Of these, 34 were selected to become members. You can find more details here.

Three new programmes became available from October 2009. Find out more here if you are interested in research in Translation Studies, combining Translation Studies with Intercultural Communication, or taking an exciting step into Public Service Interpreting.
The CTS is actively engaged in organising various events and seminars to promote both professional and research-based aspects of translation, including audiovisual translation, computer-assisted translation, interpreting and audiodescription.
Professional Aspects of Translation - Seminars (These seminars are especially aimed at students on CTS translation programmes, but all staff and students with an interest in translation are very welcome to attend).
