Biography

Antoine is a PhD student in the School of Law. Before starting his doctoral studies within the University School of Law, he studied economics and obtained a law degree (LL.B - Université Paris 5 Descartes). He then pursued his studies within the University of Surrey School of Law, and was awarded a LL.M degree in International Law (distinctions) in 2009. Antoine is currently on a three-year full doctoral studentship.

Antoine has served as a research assistant on several projects, and participates to the research activities of the Surrey International Law Centre (SILC) and the Environmental Regulatory Research Group (ERRG), of which he is a member. He also co-edits the International Law Notepad blog.

Research Interests

Antoine’s doctoral research focuses on “Stabilisation clauses in Foreign Direct Investment Investor-State Contracts: a Sustainable Development approach”.

This doctoral thesis is pursued in continuation of a LL.M dissertation which analysed the impact of Bilateral Investment treaties and Investor-State arbitrations before the ICSID on domestic jurisdiction. Antoine's research essentially aims at answering recent reports by international organisations which critically emphasised the need to reconsider stabilisation clauses due to their potentially negative impacts on State legitimate development and sovereign ability to take regulatory measures.
