Prizes Winners in 2008

The Institute of Mathematics and its Applications Prize

Two prizes awarded by the Institute for an excellent performance on graduation on one of the BSc Mathematical Studies degree programmes. Each prize consists of a one year free graduate membership of the Institute and a formal prize certificate.

The Royal & SunAlliance Prize

A prize consisting of £150 awarded by the insurance group Royal & SunAlliance for an excellent overall performance aon graduation on the BSc Financial Mathematics degree programme.

The Addison-Wesley Prize

A prize consisting of £50 and of books to the value of £50 awarded by the publishers Pearson Education for the best performance at Level 1 on a BSc Mathematical Studies degree programme.
Winner: Christopher Evans

The Chapman & Hall/CRC Prize

A prize consisting of books to the value of £100 from their current catalogue awarded by the publishers Chapman & Hall/CRC for an excellent performance on graduation on one of the BSc Mathematical Studies degree programmes.
Winner: Irjumin Kalim

The Insightful Statistics Project Prize

A prize consisting of a book from a selection up to the value of £75 awarded by Insightful Corporation to the student with the best Final Year Project in Statistics.

The Springer Prize

A prize consisting of books to the value of £150 from their current catalogue awarded by the publishers Springer-Verlag for an excellent performance on graduation on one of the BSc Mathematical Studies degree programmes.

The Departmental First Year Prizes

Two prizes awarded for excellent performance at Level 1 on a Mathematical Studies degree programme, consisting of the book "Mathematics From The Birth of Numbers" and £50.

The Departmental Second Year Prizes

Two prizes awarded for excellent performance at Level 2 on a Mathematical Studies degree programme, consisting of £100.

The Ron Shail Prize

A prize in recognition of the long and distinguished contributions of Professor Ron Shail to the Department consisting of £150 awarded to the student with the best overall performance on graduation on the MMath degree programme.
Winner: Christopher Knight
