Biography
Until July 2009 Dr Slawek Zielinski held a position of a Lecturer at the University of Surrey (UK). Prior to this, he worked as a Research Fellow at the same university and as a Lecturer at the Technical University of Gdansk (Poland). He received M.Sc., Eng. in telecommunications and Ph.D. degrees from the Technical University of Gdansk (1997). His responsibilities in the IoSR included teaching Electroacoustics, Audio Signal Processing and Sound Synthesis to the undergraduate students. In addition, Slawek served as a Warden of Surrey Court in the University Campus.
Slawek was in charge of the EPSRC-funded research project investigating new bandlimitation strategies for 5.1 surround sound. He was also actively involved, primarily as a co-supervisor, in a number of other projects concerning topics like visualisation of spatial audio quality, improvements in listening tests, evaluation of audio codecs, car audio, and objective assessment of audio quality (see the list below).
Research Projects
- Hierarchical Bandlimitation of Surround Sound - A Psychoacoustical Study
- Modeling of Spatial Soundfields Reproduced by Loudspeaker Arrays
- Perceptual Meter for Multichannel Audio Quality
- Automotive Sound Quality Evaluation
- Beyond "Basic Audio Quality": Evaluating the perceived quality of spatial audio codecs
- Quality Evaluation of Spatial Transmission and Reproduction by an Artificial Listener (QESTRAL)
- Subjective Quality Trade-offs in Consumer Multichannel Sound and Video Delivery Systems
- Sound synthesis of organ pipes using physical modelling
