the cutting edge of research is a dynamic and exciting place to be.

Surrey undertakes pioneering research with a focus on relevant and practical applications.

Our ground-breaking research is bringing direct benefits to many spheres of life – helping industry to maintain its competitive edge and creating improvements in the areas of health, medicine, space science, the environment, communications, defence and social policy.

The results of the Research Assessment Exercise (RAE) 2008, confirmed that the University of Surrey continues to consolidate its strength as a world-class, research-intensive institution.

We will continue our tradition of outstanding research contributions.

Research Directory

Research at Surrey covers an extremely broad range of disciplines - from ion beams and nanotechnology to dance and the study of sleep. The research directory provides a concise overview of the principal themes and the groups and centres which are working on them.

The Surrey Research Park

In addition to our main campus, we also own and run the Surrey Research Park, a major centre of excellence in science, technology and engineering. Widely regarded as the best of its kind in the UK, it provides facilities for 125 companies employing 2,500 staff. Find out more about the Surrey Research Park.

Research Assessment Exercise

The Research Assessment Exercise (RAE) is a periodic exercise conducted nationally to assess the quality of UK research and to inform the selective distribution of public funds for research by the UK’s higher education funding bodies. Find out about the University of Surrey's submission to the Research Assessment Exercise 2008.
