RCUK Research Outcomes System (ROS)

ROS is a new online data collection system to capture the outcomes and impacts arising from AHRC, BBSRC, EPSRC and ESRC funded research.

The deadline for submissions for the first data collection round has now been extended until Monday 30 April 2012*

The Research Councils are working to transfer all relevant final report information into ROS. They are now asking that for those grants where a final report has been submitted that the PI waits until that information is transferred in ROS before adding any new or additional outcomes.

Individual Research Councils will contact Principal Investigators when this information is ready to review in ROS.

The Research Councils have stressed that the Final Report data that has been uploaded needs to be checked for accuracy and completeness.

They are also asking for details of any further outputs/outcomes/impacts that have arisen since the Final Report was submitted to be uploaded.

They are particularly keen that the 'Publications', 'Other Research Outputs', 'Impact' and 'Key Findings' sections of ROS are completed.

WHICH GRANTS DOES THIS EFFECT?

Information is being requested by AHRC, BBSRC, EPSRC and ESRC for grants that:

  • started more than 12 months ago, or
  • have ended, but a final report has not been submitted, or
  • a final report has been submitted and relevant information has been transferred to ROS by a Research Council on your behalf.

Access to the ROS is available at https://logon.rcuk.ac.uk/. Grantholders, Delegates and Institutional Users can log in using their Je-S Username and Password.

Video tutorials and a set of useful FAQs is available on the RCUK website.

Request for further information or any questions can be sent to researchoutcomes@rcuk.ac.uk

FURTHER ASSISTANCE

A Guidance Document has been created to provide further assistance on the requirements for uploading information to the ROS, this is available to download to the right and includes:

  • General information about the system and key contact points at the University
  • An overview of the types of outcomes included on the system
  • A summary of the transitional arrangements for final reporting during Winter/Spring 2012
  • More detailed guidance for returning information in the IP and Exploitation Outcomes section of the system

In addition, a copy of the most recent information newsletter is also available to download.

Advice on Impact, including some research council case studies, is available on our dedicated webpage: http://www.surrey.ac.uk/research/res/Impact/index.htm

*ROS is available all year round for submitting research outcomes, but RCUK will be conducting an annual exercise every January to March to encourage submissions
