 Our Degrees

The Business Management degree aims to provide you with a broad, analytical and integrated study of business management. It is designed to appeal to you if you wish to gain a general management degree with the option of specialising in certain key areas of management.

The modular structure of the programme gives you a wide range of choice and allows you to enhance your management education with industry-specific studies. The programme consists of compulsory and optional modules, with options allowing you to focus on particular subject areas such as finance, marketing and human resources.

You will be able to pursue a generic Business Management programme, a more globally focused International Business Management programme or a variation that includes languages, known as Business Management and Languages.

We have excellent links with industry and outstanding opportunities on our renowned professional training year. Many of our students gain their first employment position as a direct result of their professional training year

In both your first and second years you will be exposed to modules that deal with the different functional areas of any business organisation, such as, marketing principles, organisational behaviour and analysis, business finance and management information systems. This will give you a taster of all functional aspects of business management and enable you to choose final-year optional modules in subject areas that you most enjoy and/or are most relevant to your career path.

The programme offers outstanding professional placement opportunities, with a wide variety of choices from both the public and private sectors.

BSc Business Management and French/German/Spanish

To help you maximise your opportunities in this era of internationalisation, we provide specialist Business Management programmes jointly with languages. Your studies will comprise 50 per cent Business Management and 50 per cent language component.

On this programme you will primarily be associated with the Department of Language and Translation Studies, with the business management elements delivered by the School of Management. This ensures that the two elements of this degree programme complement each other, and that you are fully prepared for your year abroad.

The year abroad, during your third year, will be spent on placement in a country where your chosen language is spoken. In most cases, our colleagues in the Languages Department will assist you in finding a placement in one or more of the many companies we have links with, giving you a real insight into business practice in the relevant country. You may also opt to spend some or all of the year studying at a university in the country if you wish to further widen your knowledge base.

BSc Business Management and English for International Communication

 Programme Overview

The programmes consist of compulsory and optional modules which you study to earn credits towards your final degree.

At Level 1 all of the modules are compulsory. Your study is focused on learning the foundations of effective business management. The compulsory modules will provide you with a strong base of knowledge in essential topics. At this level there is no difference between the Business Management and International Business Management programmes.

On our programmes with languages, you will study language modules, developing the full range of language skills in an academic, professional and international context. Depending on your programme choice, you will also attend introductory modules covering relevant aspects of translation, business management, culture and society, and history.

Level 2 and Level 3 offer you a wide selection of optional modules based on a variety of topics that include business, entrepreneurship, marketing, finance, project management and information systems, which allow you to specialise in your area of interest in combination with compulsory modules that are central to management. The International Business Management programme will differ at these levels by offering some specialist modules with specific international dimensions.

On our programmes with languages, you will build on the language modules studied at Level 1, enhance your linguistic skills and deepen your understanding of the target countries’ histories, cultures and societies.
