I am very pleased that I decided to come to Surrey and am very happy with my course. It makes me stand out from the numerous other students with business-related degrees as it equips students to analyse the business world with an international aspect.
Our International Business Management degree draws on our proven experience in providing management education. You will study organisations, their management and the changing global environment in which they operate. You will also gain the necessary skills for a successful management career.
The International Business Management degree provides you with a broad, analytical and integrated study of business processes specifically geared to global issues such as international strategy and cross-cultural management. It is ideal for those wishing to pursue a general business management degree, with the added benefit of a global outlook and international orientation.
Surrey Business School has a strong global reputation and you will benefit from the fact that this programme is taught by international staff. Furthermore, our international exchange programme enables you to optimise your learning in your first semester of Year 2 by spending time at one of our partner universities in Europe, the Americas, Australia or the Far East.
In this programme, we will provide you with a truly international experience. The programme is designed for students who wish to pursue a general business management degree, but in addition have international aspirations.
The programme combines mainstream management modules, such as Financial Accounting and Marketing Principles, with modules exclusively designed for international business. Globalisation of Emerging Markets, for example, offers a comprehensive look at the BRIC countries (Brazil, Russia, India and China), as well as South Africa and Eastern Europe, as they integrate with the global economy. The programme will enhance your understanding of multinational companies and their strategies, as well as exploring how ‘local’ companies compete against such global players. You will also receive training on how to understand and benefit from cultural differences, and have the opportunity to explore the ethics of international business.
Our international exchange programme allows students the opportunity to select from world-class universities in Europe, the Americas, Australia or the Far East. Through this programme, you will gain the necessary skills for a successful career in multinational corporations.
One optional module in Semester 2
We have excellent links with industry and offer outstanding opportunities to enhance your employability with our renowned Professional Training placement year, which can also be taken abroad. Many of our students gain their first employment position as a direct result of their Professional Training placement.
Four optional modules
We are one of only 14 business schools in the UK to hold accreditation from the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) and the Association of MBAs (AMBA).
The optional Professional Training placement year allows you to consolidate the management education you have acquired and provides a platform to build on when you return to your studies. It gives you a valuable opportunity to put your learning into practice in real organisations in the UK, with some placements available overseas.
Surrey Business School has many years’ experience of helping students to secure a one-year paid placement appropriate to their degree programme or career direction. Previous Business Management students have worked for companies such as IBM, Microsoft, Ernst & Young, PricewaterhouseCoopers, Xerox, 3M and HP, amongst others.
Each 15-credit module is designed to involve 150 hours of student work. This time will be spent in lectures, computer labs and tutorials, and includes your own study time, both individual or in small groups. You will also write essays, assignments and projects, individually and in groups, that draw on your understanding of a particular area.
Our staff members are innovative in delivering engaging learning sessions that bring together theory and practice for your intellectual and professional development.
The ability to select the modules most relevant to your chosen career means you will graduate well equipped to take advantage of all of the career opportunities open to you. Surrey Business School has an excellent track record of graduate employment.
The first cohort of International Business Management students will be graduating in 2014. However, recent Business Management graduates have entered employment with organisations such as:
GCSE English Language at grade C or above and GCSE Mathematics at grade B or above (or equivalent).
Offers are normally made in terms of grades. Suitable candidates will be invited to an Applicant Day. During the visit to the University the candidate can find out more about the programme and meet staff and students.
Non-native speakers of English will normally be required to have IELTS 6.5 or above, with a minimum of 6.0 in each sub-skill (or equivalent).
We offer intensive English language pre-sessional courses, designed to take you to the level of English ability and skill required for your studies here.
